HOUSING YOUR RABBIT

  • Some prefer to house them in their house and free roam or use a oversized dog crate, while others prefer the traditional way with an hutches  and outdoor set-up. Which works great if you have someone who may have allergies in the home or maybe not too eager for the potential natural tendencies of a rabbit, some like to chew for example.

You can also provide both  options!

This all depends on your lifestyle and what works for you and your household on what you can provide, as long as they have a safe, secure and comfortable space with a healthy diet, chew toys and daily turn out or interaction, your bunny will be hoppy!

  • Surprisingly, rabbits actually sleep a lot, up to 11 hours in the day consisting of naps, so do not fret if you are at work or have the occasional very busy day, your bunny will forgive you.

  • We highly recommend wood pellet bedding for Angoras, even for Holland lops, especially if indoors, no dust, no odor and no mess. We prefer a litter box with a mesh cover, particularly to help keep the Angoras wool clean.

GROOMING

  • You will typically need to groom an Angora rabbit generously 3x a week, 10 min. sessions.

This is important bonding time between you both, as this is a lap rabbit and much of its time with you will be during grooming times. It is actually quite relaxing if you are consistent. You can use a blow dryer or pet blower that helps loosen the wool from knotting.

If you prefer a trimmed Angora, you may attempt to do it or contact a local groomer.

  • Clipping nails is much easier with human nail clippers.

  • You will need a Slicker brush for both a English Angora and a Holland lop.

HEALTH

  • Fixing a rabbit has become a more recommended route for house rabbits, although an expensive one.

  • They are overall, a healthy animal for most of their life. The biggest threats for any healthy rabbit is GI stais & Wool Block.

  • It is always a good idea to have a Medical Care Kit prepared for your rabbit. Some things to have on hand are baby gas drops, Critical Care Formula, Natural herbs such as Plantain, VETRX & Ivermectin.

  • Rabbits live from 6 to 10 years, depending on the breed, so you do get many wonderful years with a rabbit.

  • Medical costs are comparable to a dog & cat.

  • Clean water with vitamins in a bowl (Water bottle is preferred for Angoras)

  • Fresh daily hay, pellets and the occasional fresh foods.

These are just basic, helpful points. We will provide more details when you bring your bunny home.
